The Black Sea city of Burgas has opened a monument of Petya Dubarova, a poetess that touches the hearts of Bulgarians to this day despite the fact that she left behind a single book of poems published posthumously.

The three-meter high bronze monument of Petya Dubarova (1962 – 1979) is located in the Burgas Sea Garden, next to the monument of another major Bulgarian poet Hristo Fotev (1934-2002), also from Burgas.

Dozens of people including the mother and sister of Petya Dobarova came for the opening of the monument.

Petya Dubarova, a student at the Burgas foreign language high-school, committed suicide at age 18, in 1979. She has a total of 38 poems largely filled with tender rhymes and much sorrowful sentiment.

Her only book, "The Sea and I" was published posthumously in 1980. However, her works are widely cherished in Bulgaria and many have been turned into popular songs.

Today Petya Dubarova is seen as the symbol of Burgas. Her monument sculpture is the work of sculptor Radostin Damaskov.
