Japanese ambassadors wife launches cultural programme with traditional tea-making ceremony
2010-09-29The Japanese embassy launched its 21st Japanese culture in Bulgaria programme* on September 27 at the ambassador's residence in Atanas Dalchev street.
The programme will span two months between October 14 until December 23. A total of 11 cultural events are due to be staged in Sofia, Plovdiv and Varna.
"I am convinced that the people of Japan and Bulgaria have a lot in common. Respect for other people; a heart that protects beautiful nature; and above all, a soul that preserves and respects traditions and unique local culture," Japanese ambassador Cuneharu Takeda said at the presentation.
The Japanese ambassador's wife, Kimiko Takeda, performed an authentic tea ceremony at the embassy, especially arranged for the occasion.
The forthcoming cultural programme seeks to present traditional Japanese culture through other events such as woodblock print Ukiyo-e lecture and workshop, a martial arts demonstration and an exhibition and workshop of ikebana of the Koryu School with the participation of Master Rimei Ogo.
The programme also features events linked to present-day Japan – a week of contemporary Japanese film-making – including a month dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of legendary Japanese film-maker Akira Kurosawa – as well as two business events, a Bulgaria-Japan business week and a lecture on energy-saving policy and technologies of Japan..
*Days of Japanese Culture in Bulgaria emerged in the autumn of 1990 during the time of ambassador Takashi Tajima. The initiative earned high praise from the Bulgarian state, encouraged the team of ambassador Tajima to continue.
