Theater, television and film director Tedi Moskov, the man behind the popular Monty Python style TV show The Street, was awarded as best Bulgarian director at the annual Icarus ceremony on Sunday evening.

"Icarus is the symbol of failure. It is interesting that awards named him are being handed out tonight. Wasn't he the one whose wings got melted and he got killed? Otherwise Icarus makes good buses," Tedi Moskov said provocatively at the ceremony.

He wished his colleagues to have a hard life as this is "the only kind of life worthy of an artist".

The annual ceremony organized by the Bulgarian Actors Union on the International Day of Theatre gave out the award for leading male role to the king of mono plays Marius Kurkinski.

Todor Kolev, a prominent comedy actor, show host and emblematic figure of Bulgaria's transition to democracy, was recognised with the special award for his overall contribution to the Bulgarian theater.

This is the first time that Tedi Moskov receives the official recognition of his colleagues, although he is one of the most famous directors both on the home and foreign front thanks to his innovative insight in theater plays such Jam, A Servants' Comedy, The Master and Margarita, Sireno de Berjerak and the movie Rhapsody in White.

Prizes in our country are so steeped in stinky body odor that I prefer not to have to do anything with them, he famously said earlier this year after threatening to hand back the prize Golden Century unless the state allocates more money for the theater.
